Sheikh Mohammed approves Dhs30b Dubai drainage project

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai on Monday approved an integrated project to develop the rain drainage network in Dubai at a cost of Dhs30 billion.
‘Tasreef’ will enhance rainwater drainage capacity in Dubai by 700%.  It will have a capacity of over 20 million m³ of water daily, with flow capacity of 230 m³ per second.
The project ensures readiness to face climate-related challenges.The integrated drainage project will cover all areas of Dubai and absorb more than 20 million cubic meters of water per day.
The largest rainwater collection project of its kind in the region, will cover all of Dubai, project will meet emirate’s needs for 100 years.
“Brothers and sisters, today we approved an integrated project to develop the rain drainage network in Dubai at a cost of Dhs30 billion,” Sheikh Mohammed wrote on X.
“The largest project to collect rainwater in one system in the region which will increase the capacity of rainwater drainage in the emirate by 700% and enhance the emirate’s readiness to face future climate challenges,” said Sheikh Mohammed.
“The new project will cover all areas of Dubai and absorb more than 20 million cubic meters of water per day. It will serve Dubai for the next hundred years… We ordered it to start immediately… and it will be implemented in stages ending in the year 2033,” he said further.
“Dubai will maintain its infrastructure. . And its urban gains. And to enhance safety and security for everyone living on its land,” Sheikh Mohammed concluded.
